People who need to learn MS Excel
Self-taught learners who still struggle
People who took an Excel class years ago and forgot everything
People needing a solid foundation of Excel skills
Requirements:
High-speed internet access
A Windows-based PC (You can follow along on your Mac, but there will be differences between the versions. A dedicated Mac class would be better.)
A desktop computer or laptop (i.e., NO tablets or phones.)
MS Office 365 subscription (Gives you all the latest tools and security updates.)
Standalone versions Excel 2019, 2021 (Some features not available in the standalone versions.)
Class Outline:
Session 1: Introduction to Excel (3hours)
1. Introduction to Excel
• What is Excel and its applications in various fields
• Overview of Excel versions and subscriptions
• Navigating the user interface: Ribbon, Workbook, Worksheet, Cells, Columns, and Rows
2. Basic Excel Operations
• Creating and saving workbooks
• Data entry techniques and shortcuts
• Selecting, copying, moving, and deleting data
3. Introduction to Formulas and Functions
• Understanding cell references (relative, absolute, mixed)
• Basic formulas (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
• Introduction to basic functions (SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX)
4. Formatting for Clarity
• Font adjustments, cell borders, and colors
• Conditional formatting basics
• Adjusting row height and column width for better readability

Sample Excel file for use in class and practice afterwards

Session 2: Working with Data (3 Hours)
1. Data Organization Techniques
• Sorting and filtering data
• Introduction to tables and their benefits
2. Basic Data Visualization
• Creating charts and graphs (bar, line, pie)
• Customizing chart elements
3. Managing Worksheets
• Inserting, renaming, moving, and deleting worksheets
• Splitting text into columns using Text to Columns
• Freezing panes for easier navigation
4. Printing and Sharing Workbooks
• Setting print areas and print titles
• Page layout and scaling options
• Protecting worksheets and workbooks
• Sharing workbooks and collaboration basics
